BERT

AGE: Senior

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Bert. I came into rescue via a shelter.  Another rescue pulled me from the shelter but then didn't have a foster home for me, so they turned me over to GABR.  I'm just happy to have a nice, warm place to sleep.  I'm on the skinny side but my foster mom is working on fattening me up.  I get along well with the other dogs in my foster home, but I am less fond of the young and crazy ones.  I do great with children, though!

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  No formal training, but I am well behaved!

GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes, but I would do best with a larger dog in my approximate age range (in other words, I'm not super fond of small dogs).

GOOD WITH CATS? No

CONTACT: If you are interested in adopting me . . .

CHLOE

AGE: One and a half

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Chloe!  I am a cute white Boxer girl with a lot of joie de vivre!  I was surrendered to a shelter and then the shelter people called the rescue people.  I was surrendered because I am deaf and my former family didn't have a fenced yard.  Like most dogs, I don't have an innate understanding of property boundaries so I guess I wandered off a few times.  So, in my new home I will need: a fenced yard (you probably guessed that one!), a hearing dog to be my friend, and an owner who is willing to take me to obedience classes.  My foster mom says that I'm a very sweet girl.  I looooove to give kisses.  I enjoy playing with the boy Boxer who lives in my foster home.  There's a three-year-old kid here and I like her a lot, too.  My foster mom also wanted me to tell you that living with a deaf dog is not a big deal like you might think.  When she wants my attention, she just flips a light switch or stomps on the floor.  She gives me a hand signal and then I try to do whatever she asked me to do.  However, sometimes I ignore her but that has nothing to do with my deafness and everything to do with me being a youngster and having my own agenda.

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  Yes, there is a three-year-old kid in my foster home.

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Will probably chase them relentlessly.

CHUBS

AGE: Four

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Chubs!  Yes, Chubs, as in . . . chubby.  I really prefer the term "husky," though.  My foster mom said something about "long walks" and "ration reductions" and "getting in shape."  Hmph! I was surrendered to rescue after my former home flooded (I lived in one of the unlucky parts of the state that was hit very hard with the recent storms).    I was getting pretty stressed out with everything that happened and all the workers coming in and out of my home, but I'm happy to be on solid (dry) ground now.  I'm busy settling into my new foster home and getting to know everyone here.

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  No formal training, but I am well behaved.

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  Yes, but I would do best with older children.

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Not known

COSMO **ADOPTION PENDING!!**

AGE: Sixteen months

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Cosmo!  I came into rescue because of hardship in my former family - a heart attack, loss of home, etc.  Now, the rescue people wanted me to tell you a few things about myself.  Sometimes people see a young Boxer on the site and may not realize what a handful a youngster like me can be.  I am a nice guy, but I'm not perfect!  For starters, my former family did not feed me dog food.  They fed me people food (like pizza).  I didn't mind, of course, but my foster mom tells me that it's better if dogs eat dog food.  I am having a hard time learning this lesson.  I am an accomplished counter surfer and continue to try to get my paws on people food when I can.   I do enjoy the company of other dogs (I get lonely when no one is around) and will need a new home with at least one other dog in it.  I am learning the concept of being in a crate when no one is home.  My former owner did not use a crate and well . . . young, energetic Boxers probably should not be left to their own devices when left alone.  There are some kids in my foster home and I have a blast playing with them.  At the end of the day I am pretty worn out!  I also looooove walks and my foster mom says I'm even pretty good on leash!  She says I'm a sweet boy who just needs some basic training.  I'm also very friendly -  I love visitors, kids, dogs, you name it.

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes, but occasional accidents may occur.

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  Yes

DAISY MAE

AGE: Approximately three

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm a Daisy Mae!  Look into my magic blue eye and fall in love with me!   I came into rescue as a stray.  My foster mom says that I'm a sweet girl who loves everything and everybody.  I am very energetic, affectionate and loyal! My new family will have to be patient and work with me through the adjustment period after I move in.  I would love to find a home with someone who has some experience with the Boxer breed and who has a fenced yard (not an absolute must, but definitely a preference).

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes, but may have an occasional accident when left alone.

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  I came into rescue as a stray and for safety reasons the rescue does not place stray dogs in homes with small children.  Although Boxers are generally known to be good with children, applicants with children under the age of five should limit their search to dogs that have a proven history with small children.

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Yes

DREW **ADOPTION PENDING!!**

AGE: Two

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Drew!  I came into rescue because my former owner was unable to care for me.  My original owner passed away and the person with whom I was left felt that rescue would be a better option for me.  You see, I came into rescue with some problems with my output.  I'm talkin' about poop here, folks.  I had diarrhea and plenty of it.  It took some patience on the part of my foster parents and a veterinarian to arrive at a diagnosis and a treatment.  It turns out that I have histiocytic colitis, which is somewhat common in Boxers. I am on antibiotics, in an attempt to bring down the inflamation in my intestines.   Things are already looking up, as I am delivering normal poops now.  Woot!  I will probably need to be kept on special food for a while. You may want to know more about me than just my poop, so I wanted to let you know that I am cute, friendly, and handsome.  I am good with other dogs, children, and cats.  I love to go for walks and behave pretty well on leash.  In short, I rock!

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GRACIE, CGC

[All of us at GABR would like to congratulate Gracie on passing the Canine Good Citizen test at the Boxer Bash! ]

AGE: Approximately eight

MY STORY:  You lookin' at me? I caught ya! Spend some time with me and I will steal your heart! I am beautiful lady who is just waitin' for the perfect home to come along. I enjoy quiet evenings at home, long walks, fine kibble, and I will never miss out on the opportunity to lounge at your feet while you watch American Gladiators or the Packers on t.v. I can tell you I have wonderful manners and am a lot of fun to spend time with.  I am great with kids and other dogs.  As for the wild turkeys that keep showing up at our bird feeders here, I say, "let me at 'em!"
I may chase cats, squirrels, or wild turkeys, if given the chance.

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  No formal training, but I am very well behaved.

GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes  [Note from GABR: Normally our stray clause would apply but in Gracie's case we had an opportunity to temperament test her beforehand and confirm that she is good with children.  It is unknown whether Gracie is good with infants and toddlers, so families with very young children should seek a dog with a known history.]

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Yes, for the most part

INDIANA **ADOPTION PENDING!!**

AGE: Three months

MY STORY:  My name is Indiana and I was surrendered to rescue because I wasn't getting along with the two small-breed dogs in my house.  I'm a typical, rambunctious, energetic, active, young Boxer boy.  I am 100% adorable!   But, I'm having a few small issues.  I was taken away from my mom way too early and because of that,  I missed out on some valuable lessons.  My new owners must be dog savvy to help me learn the lessons I missed out on.   (Puppies should stay with their mom and littermates until at least 8 weeks of age.  Studies are even showing that 12 weeks might be the best.)   I would love to attend supervised puppy play groups or doggie daycare to help me learn and give me an outlet for all my energy.   Speaking of energy, don't be surprised if you are missing some socks or underwear.  I love to steal them!

HOUSEBROKEN? Mostly, but accidents do happen.

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Probably.  There are no cats in my foster home, but my foster mom works at a shelter and I get to meet lots of cats.

MAXIMUS

AGE: Three

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Maximus!  I'm a handsome and energetic brindle boy.  I was surrendered to rescue because my former owners failed to contain me properly (leashes are relatively cheap, peeps!) and I ran off.  They were moving anyway, so they surrendered me to a vet clinic.  The clinic, in turn, called rescue.  So here I am!  Let's see, what should I tell you about me?  Oh, I do have a long tail.  Hopefully you don't keep low-lying breakables sitting around. I love to go for rides and walks.  I am very affectionate and will snuggle up to you for as long as you'll let me.  I would like to have a home where someone is around quite a bit, as I'm not too fond of being crated all day.   I'm an all-around nice guy and I just know I'll be a great companion for the right individual/family!

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN? Yes

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes, but I may prefer to be an only dog.  It really depends on the other dog.

GOOD WITH CATS? Not known

MIA

AGE: One

MY STORY:  Hey there!  I'm a sweet girl named Mia.  I was surrendered to the rescue due to financial reasons.   I'm a very petite little girl.  There should be a picture of me under the word "cute" in the dictionary.   There are a few things you should know about me.  I'm deaf, so I have a few additional requirements if you want to adopt me.   My new home must have a hearing dog to act as my ears and a completely, above ground fenced-in yard.  My new family must agree to take me to obedience classes so we can learn hand signals together.  You should also know I don't like to be alone very much.  I've been through a couple of homes already and I really need my next home to be my last.  I can be crated, but I tend to make a fuss when I'm first put in a crate.  I would love a Boxer brother to play with.  I'm also very friendly. My foster dad says that I love people so much that I would make a great therapy dog someday! And did I mention that I am cute?

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes

TRAINING?  Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  Yes

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Maybe.  There was a cat in my former home and I chased it, but I didn't hurt it.  My current foster home does not have any cats.

Mia just went on her first camping trip with her foster family!  That's Mia on the right.  The other two Boxers are GABR alumni - Clyde (who is also deaf) and Willis. Mia just wanted you to know that even though she is deaf, she can do all the fun stuff that other dogs do!

RHETT

AGE: Approximately three

MY STORY:  Hey there, I'm Rhett (and frankly, my dear, I do give a darn . . . in case you wondered).   I came into rescue as a stray.  I'm a nice boy and I love to play!  I'd love to find a new home with another dog in it.  A couple of little details about me . . . I do have this thing attached to my butt.  But, I am a purebred Boxer so don't pass me by just because of that (can I get an amen?  Holl-a!)  Also, my leg was apparently broken in my previous life and no one had it fixed (and it's already healed, so it can't be repaired now).  So while I may have a little hitch in my giddyup on rare occasions, the leg does not bother me or slow me down at all!  Oh, and while I'm technically not supposed to be placed with small children because I was a stray, I have had an opportunity to meet lots of nice kids while I've been in rescue.  So, kids would be fine.  Great, in fact! Thanks for checking me out!

TINA

AGE: Three months

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm Tina!   I was surrendered to a shelter late one night.  The nice people from GABR came to the rescue and sprung me. Now I have foster Boxer brothers and a nice soft place to sleep.  I dig it!  Yes, I'm deaf (in case you were going to ask), so I have a few additional requirements if you want to adopt me.   My new home must have a hearing dog to act as my ears and a completely, above ground fenced-in yard.  My new family must agree to take me to obedience classes so we can learn hand signals together.   I like to be close to my foster Boxer brothers and don't like to be left alone very much. I am a puppy and have a lot to learn. I am little mouthy. My foster mom lovingly calls me the white tornado as I never sit still very long.  Prior dog/boxer experience is a plus. I tend to make a fuss when I'm first put in a crate, but if I know my Boxer brothers are near, I do settle down eventually.  I would love a Boxer brother to play with.  And did I mention that I am cute as a button?

HOUSEBROKEN? Working on it - I am still have accidents.

TRAINING? Obedience classes are a requirement for adopting me. (The rescue requires obedience classes for all dogs under three.)

GOOD WITH CHILDREN?  Yes - but I am mouthy, so older children would be best.

GOOD WITH DOGS? Yes

GOOD WITH CATS? Maybe.  There are cats in my former home and I chased them, but I don't hurt them.  I like to bark at them.

TULA **ADOPTION PENDING!!**

AGE: Approximately ten months

MY STORY:  Hi, I'm a pretty girl named Tula.  I came into rescue as a stray.  I'm a petite, active girl.  I'm busy settling into my foster home.  There is a big Boxer boy here and we get along fine.  We enjoy giving each other "the business."  I'm still a puppy in lots of ways - like a lack of coordination, for one! Sometimes when I sit on the floor and scratch myself with my hind leg, I get all tangled up and then tip over!

HOUSEBROKEN? Yes, although occasional accidents are possible.

**What does "Adoption Pending" mean?  It means that an applicant is in the process of adopting the dog.  Sometimes you may see this designation next to a dog's name for several weeks.  Although the adoption process usually only takes a week or so, there are some cases where we have to wait for a dog to complete a medical treatment (or finish a heat cycle) before we can place the dog.
