Dogs with Jobs

While there's not much hope that you can send your dog to work in your place, there are lots of wonderful jobs and activities for dogs these days!

If you adopt a dog from a rescue or shelter (and the dog is a purebred), you can apply to the American Kennel Club for an Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP) number.  Click here to learn more about the ILP program. 

With an ILP number, your dog can compete in all sorts of events like Agility and Obedience.  Some organizations also allow mixed breeds to compete in various events as well.

Otto (below) was adopted from GABR in 2002.  His former owner said that Otto was untrainable.  Otto recently earned his first agility title, having placed first in each run.   

Congratulations to GABR adoptee Sasha, who earned her Canine Good Citizen certificate in 2003 and became a certified therapy dog (TDI) on March 13, 2004.

Just about any dog can become a Canine Good Citizen with a little patience and training.  GABR adoptee, Indi (at left), is proud to have her CGC Certificate from the American Kennel Club.

If you think your pooch might have the people skills to be a Certified Therapy Dog, some of the organizations that test and sponsor therapy dogs include: Therapy Dogs International, Therapy Dogs, Inc.  , and the Delta Society.
